Let’s be upfront about geography: Beaver Stadium in State College, PA is about 90 miles from Harrisburg — roughly a 1 hour 45 minute drive via US-322 West. Inn of the Dove is not a stadium-adjacent hotel. What it is, is a private, adults-only stop that sits naturally along the route for couples traveling to Penn State games from the south and east — Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, and the Harrisburg area itself.

This guide is for two kinds of couples: those breaking a long drive into two days with a romantic overnight stop, and those treating game weekend itself as the getaway — making the trip about more than just the four hours in the stadium.

The honest version: Inn of the Dove is roughly 90 miles / 1h45 from Beaver Stadium — not walking distance, but a natural stopover on the drive. Adults only, no children, no pets. Every suite has a private jetted hot tub, most have a fireplace, two have private heated indoor pools.

Penn State Football at a Glance

Penn State Nittany Lions football is one of the oldest and most successful programs in the country, playing out of Beaver Stadium — one of the largest stadiums in the world, with a capacity of over 100,000. The atmosphere on a sold-out Saturday, especially during the program’s famous “White Out” night game each season, is one of the most electric in college sports.

Why Harrisburg Works as the Stopover

If you’re driving up from Philadelphia, Baltimore, or DC, Harrisburg sits roughly on the way — close enough to I-83 and I-81 to make a natural overnight break. Stop Friday night, settle into a private suite, and finish the drive to State College on Saturday morning with plenty of time before kickoff. After the game, some couples reverse the trip — driving back partway and staying a second night to unwind before heading home Sunday.

Planning Tip: Big home games — White Out night, rivalry weekends, and senior day — mean heavy traffic in and out of State College. Building in a stopover the night before or after gives you a buffer instead of a rushed same-day round trip.

Why Couples Choose a Private Suite Over a Standard Hotel

Whether you’re splitting a long drive or turning the weekend into a getaway, Inn of the Dove is built differently from a roadside chain hotel. It’s a small, adults-only property exclusively for couples — no children on the grounds at any time, no pets, and corridors that stay genuinely quiet.

Instead of a standard room and a continental breakfast bar, you get a private suite with a hot tub, often a fireplace, and complete privacy — a better way to break up a long drive or recover from a loud Saturday in the stands.

Option 2: Saturday Night After the Game

Drive back partway after the final whistle and check in for the night instead of pushing through a 1h45+ drive while tired. Front desk hours are Sunday–Thursday until 10 p.m. and Friday–Saturday until midnight; call ahead for later arrivals.
